On 26 February, the European Commission published the Clean Industrial Deal. Its objectives were to revise industrial and climate policy based on the findings of the Draghi report. Although the CID does not explicitly mention the US or China once, it is based on the conclusion that ‘Putting decarbonisation and circularity at the heart of economic policy is the only way for the EU to keep pace with its resource-rich rivals.’ At a time of acceleration in geopolitics, is this vision or short-sightedness?
