The low-emission vehicles will be added to Kraków's fleet of nearly 600 Solaris already. Deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2025.

Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne w Krakowie (Municipal Transport Company in Kraków) has selected Solaris as the supplier of 37 low-emission buses through a tender process. The modern, low-floor and air-conditioned 12-metre-long vehicles will replace the oldest vehicles in the Kraków's carrier's fleet. Some of them (25 buses) will be designed to serve urban routes, and the remaining number (12 buses) to serve agglomeration routes. Deliveries are scheduled for the first half of 2025.

The mild hybrid vehicles are an attractive proposition in the low-emission vehicle segment. The system used in these buses is based on an internal combustion engine, supported by a so-called electric machine that works as a power generator. The electric machine relieves the internal combustion engine, resulting in fuel savings and reduced emissions. The mild hybrid solution is based on recuperative technology: the system recovers and stores energy during braking. The captured energy is stored in an energy store and then used when the engine is under greater load - e.g. during acceleration. The machine then works as an electric motor. As a result, mild hybrid vehicles emit fewer pollutants and are more environmentally friendly, while offering considerable flexibility.

The Solaris brand has been present in Kraków for more than twenty years. During this time, almost 600 of the manufacturer's vehicles have appeared on the streets of this picturesque city. Importantly, a large proportion of them are zero-emission vehicles. The mild hybrid buses from the latest order will be the first Solaris buses with this propulsion system in Krakow, but the product is already familiar to the transport operator - four-week tests were carried out on Krakow's lines last summer.
