Hydrogen technologies: public acceptance, safety and regulation
9.04.2025, Poznań, MTP, PCC, Cinnamon Room, 13:50-15:40
As the world continues its transition towards sustainable energy solutions, hydrogen is emerging as a key player in the move towards net zero emissions. The HYPOP session at H2POLAND, scheduled for 9 April 2025, provides an opportunity for energy professionals, policy makers and communications experts to engage in a dynamic presentation on the future of hydrogen technology. The event will focus on how society can adopt and safely integrate hydrogen technologies into everyday life.
Programme design:
Overview of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership
Kicking off the event, a representative from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership will provide an overview of their ongoing work to shape the future of clean hydrogen in Europe.
Introduction of HYPOP and ongoing implementation of H2 in Europe
Ilaria Schiavi from Environment Park will take us through the objectives of the HYPOP project and its significant role in promoting hydrogen deployment across Europe. Through real-life examples, participants will gain insight into the progress made and the challenges of implementing hydrogen solutions.
Initial HYPOP guidance on EU hydrogen licensing and safety
Mattia Miglietta, also from Environment Park, will present the HYPOP project's preliminary findings and guidelines on hydrogen safety and licensing in the EU. As hydrogen technology is rapidly developing, these guidelines will serve as critical tools for governments, institutions and private sectors alike.
Interview with local institutions
A live interview with a local institution will provide valuable context on the challenges and opportunities communities face when integrating hydrogen technology. The interview will cover safety, regulations and the role of local authorities in promoting a hydrogen-aware environment.
Hydrogen perception, insights and communication: results from HYPOP implementation
Oliver Davies of the Institute of Methods Innovation and Valeria Mingardi of APRE will present the latest HYPOP research on hydrogen perceptions. They will discuss how public engagement strategies can influence the acceptance of hydrogen, based on surveys and feedback from communities across Europe.
Understanding hydrogen systems from a social lifecycle perspective
Diego Iribarren of IMDEA Energy will explore the social lifecycle perspective of hydrogen systems. This session will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the broader social implications of hydrogen adoption, including the long-term impact on communities, jobs and public welfare.
HYPOP community roundtable: best practices and project guests
In the final session of the event, a roundtable discussion will bring together key stakeholders, including industry experts and community leaders. The panel will explore best practices in hydrogen projects and how communities can actively participate in and benefit from hydrogen technologies. This collaborative discussion will highlight successful case studies and inspire future initiatives.
Conclusions and closing remarks
The event will conclude with a summary of key findings and practical insights, providing participants with clear steps to accelerate hydrogen technology adoption and community acceptance.
