Hydrogen in transportation
Hydrogen in transportation
10.04.2025, Poznań, MTP, PCC, level 0, stage 4, 11:00-11:50 am
Panel description
Hydrogen as an alternative fuel is becoming a key component of the decarbonization strategy for the transportation sector. Faced with the challenges of CO2 emissions and rising sustainability expectations, hydrogen offers a real opportunity to create low-carbon transportation in all its segments: land, rail, air and sea.
A panel on the topic will provide a forum to discuss the latest trends, technologies and challenges in implementing hydrogen as an energy source in various modes of transportation.
Purpose of the panel
The purpose of this panel is to demonstrate the potential of hydrogen to transform transportation at all levels, identify key challenges, and discuss best practices and innovative solutions that can accelerate the development of zero-emission transportation. We will also discuss with the panelists how the introduction of hydrogen in transportation can support the goals of reducing CO2 emissions and improving air quality.
Key issues
1. Land transportation:
- Development of hydrogen in passenger car and truck transportation.
- Use of fuel cells to power long-range electric vehicles.
- Challenges of hydrogen refueling infrastructure and integration with existing fuel networks.
- Cost issues of hydrogen production and its competitiveness with electric batteries.
2. Rail transportation:
- Hydrogen as an alternative to electric traction in regions where electrification networks are costly or difficult to build.
- The use of hydrogen in long-distance connections and freight transport.
3. Public transport:
- Hydrogen in buses, streetcars and other public transport vehicles.
- Environmental benefits, such as zero emissions, and operational efficiency.
- Models of cooperation between cities and transport operators in the development of hydrogen vehicle fleets.
4. Maritime transportation:
- The use of hydrogen as a fuel for ship propulsion, both in passenger and cargo transport.
- Hydrogen's potential for combating pollution in maritime transportation and its compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations.
- Innovative projects such as hydrogen in the propulsion of container and cruise ships.
5. Air transportation:
- Hydrogen in aviation: The potential of hydrogen to decarbonize the aviation sector, including the use of hydrogen jet engines and hydrogen-based synthetic fuels.
- Airports as hydrogen hubs: How can airport infrastructure support the development of hydrogen-based air transportation?
Purpose of the panel
The purpose of this panel is to demonstrate the potential of hydrogen to transform transportation at all levels, identify key challenges, and discuss best practices and innovative solutions that can accelerate the development of zero-emission transportation. We will also discuss with the panelists how the introduction of hydrogen in transportation can support the goals of reducing CO2 emissions and improving air quality.
